Privacy

CommonGrounds holds people's working files. This page says what that means for your data, in the words we would use if you asked us directly.

What we keep

Your account: the email address you signed up with, your password stored as a hash, and the tokens your devices use to sign in.

Your folders: the files you choose to sync, their earlier versions, and a record of which device and which agent made each change. That is the product; without it there is no history to show you.

Running the service: ordinary server logs of requests, and counts that stop one address from creating endless accounts.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data, show advertising, or use the contents of your folders to train models.

There are no analytics scripts and no advertising cookies on this site. The web app keeps your sign-in token in your own browser.

We do not browse your folders. Access is limited to what keeping the service running requires, and we ask you first if fixing a problem needs more than that.

Where it is

On a server in Germany, reached over HTTPS. Mails that the service sends - an address confirmation, a password reset - go through our mail provider.

A folder you share is visible to the people you shared it with, at the role you gave them. A download link you make is readable by whoever has the address, until it expires or you stop it.

How long

Your folders stay as long as your account does. Old versions are thinned over time, so what you have now is kept and the distant past is kept more sparsely.

Delete a folder in the app and its contents go with it. To have your whole account and everything in it deleted, write to us and we will do it.

Changes

If this changes in a way that matters, it changes here first, and the date below changes with it.
